Chiropractic Treatment for Knee Pain

Knee Pain in Children and Teens

Most people associate knee pain as something that plagues adults with arthritis or athletes that put too much strain on their body. But knee pain is also one of the most commonly reported problems in children and teens, especially those who are active.

Knee pain in children and teens can emerge for a number of reasons. It can be related to overuse, an imbalance between muscle strength and flexibility, or even growth-related illnesses.

Teens and pre-teens who suffer from knee pain often don’t get the treatment they need because either they or their parents confuse it with “growing pains”.

To determine if knee pain is more than just “growing pains,” and warrants an evaluation, consider if:

  • Pain lasts longer than two weeks

  • Knee pain affects their performance

  • They are limping due to knee pain

  • Pain is all they think about while being active

  • They get a knee injury

Chiropractor and Knee Pain

When it comes to treating knee pain, most people turn to treatment options like medication, therapy, surgery or injections. While these methods are useful for treating knee pain, they may not be the best option for treating the source of a child or teen’s knee pain.

Chiropractors can evaluate the knee’s overall function, as well as identify what is causing any swelling, pain, stiffness, weakness or instability. Through joint manipulation, adjustments, stretches and exercises, chiropractors can pinpoint and eliminate the source of the knee pain.

If your child or teenager is experiencing chronic knee pain, reach out to our team to set up an evaluation and look for treatment options.
